Linking a new version of an SVG to the old one[edit]

I've tried to find the answer to this but haven't been able to. Sorry if it's a repeat!

I found this svg: File:Ohlone_color_map_bands.svg and made a crop of it in png form to use on the Awaswas Wikipedia page. I linked to the original as the source, put the original author and date. Is there anything else I need to do to show that they are essentially the same graphic, just cropped? (Sorry I'm a new editor and also didn't know how to make these internal links without the image appearing directly here in the message).

Thanks for your help! --Coooohen (talk) 10:11, 4 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I would use {{Extracted from}}. In the licensing template, I would credit the original author. Why didn't you keep it as an SVG? Glrx (talk) 19:31, 4 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Glrx: Thanks for the response and for adding the template! I actually wanted to keep it as an svg, but when I downloaded and opened the svg to crop it, the graphics looked weird. Cropping the png was the only way I could figure out how to preserve the map. --Coooohen (talk) 13:49, 5 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
