Autopatrol given[edit]

Commons Autopatrolled.svg

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. Trijnsteltalk 17:43, 26 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for recognizing me for this. Blue Rasberry (talk) 20:22, 26 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Picture of the Year voting round 1 open[edit]

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:

  1. Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC].
  2. This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
  3. Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. From professional animal and plant shots to breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying the world's best architecture, maps, emblems, diagrams created with the most modern technology, and impressive human portraits, Commons features pictures of all flavors.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topic categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you can vote for as many images as you like. The first round category winners and the top ten overall will then make it to the final. In the final round, when a limited number of images are left, you must decide on the one image that you want to become the Picture of the Year.

To see the candidate images just go to the POTY 2012 page on Wikimedia Commons

Wikimedia Commons celebrates our featured images of 2012 with this contest. Your votes decide the Picture of the Year, so remember to vote in the first round by January 30, 2013.

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

2012 Picture of the Year: A pair of European Bee-eaters in Ariège, France.

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 2 will end on 7 March 2014. Click here to learn more and vote »

Thanks,

Thanks for uploading File:Simpleshow foundation logo.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

Hello Bluerasberry, the following content you uploaded violates one or more of our policies and therefore has been or will soon be deleted:

The Wikimedia Commons (this website) only hosts media files with a realistic educational purpose and that can be used for any purpose, including:
  • use in any work, regardless of content
  • creation of derivative works
  • commercial use
  • free distribution

See Commons:Licensing for the copyright policy on Wikimedia Commons, and Commons:Image casebook for some specific examples. Some other Wikimedia projects have different licensing policies. For example, the English Wikipedia allows fair use of sounds and photographs. This is not the case on Wikimedia Commons; "fair use" materials are not acceptable here.

Please make sure that you only upload educational content you have created yourself, those which are out of copyright, or those for which you have the required permission for the work to be used in all the ways described above. Please note that derivative works of copyrighted material are also considered copyrighted. Again, please read through Commons:Licensing, which is quite crucial, to understanding how Wikimedia Commons works. Thanks for your contribution, and please do leave me a message if you have further questions.

Consumer Reports images[edit]

Commons Featured Pictures has a lot of issues with "Wow factor" - you may want to try en:WP:FPC, since English Wikipedia has a culture of considering value to the encyclopedia - which is very high, at least, if we have articles on the products. Adam Cuerden (talk) 18:28, 18 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Adam Cuerden I will try that next. I was hoping to get Commons review to report back to our photography team here, and to at least have the experience. Someone was kind to already edit the photo I submitted and I want to see how this plays out.
I saw your name at meta:Grants:TPS/Wikimania_scholars. I would like to talk with you there, if I may. Please say hello if you see me and I will try to find you. Blue Rasberry (talk) 18:39, 18 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

File:All India Trinamool Congress logo 2016.jpg[edit]

Hi Bluerasberry. COM:VP/C#File:All India Trinamool Congress logo 2016.jpg seems to have been archived without this file's licensing being resolved. Mouryan never responded to either my post or your post, so I'm not sure what's going on. He hasn't edited on Commons since his post at VP, but it look like he has been fairly active on English Wikipedia and Bengali Wikipedia. Any suggestions on what the next step should be? I'm not seeing this as a free license and there are also some other images in All India Trinamool Congress whose licensing seems a bit iffy. -- Marchjuly (talk) 13:55, 1 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Marchjuly: I tagged the file for deletion. An administrator will review the deletion tag, and I expect they will delete it. @Mouryan: The logo can be restored if you AIT Congress' lawyer or communication officer to make a copyright release. Sorry for the trouble - this is copyrighted art, though, and it belongs to the organization. They decide its license, and Commons cannot keep it without permission.
Commons does not check for trademark, so sometimes people make fan art that gives the same idea without being a copyright violation. I notice that someone has made their own flower and flag art that seems to not be official or from the party. Right now that unofficial image is being used on Wikipedia. Sometimes this is what happens - when the official organization will not share, fans make their own unofficial art. Blue Rasberry (talk) 14:13, 1 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for responding so late. Basically I am all set to hold a Wikipedia Meetup in the city of Kolkata on the 11th of this month on account of which I'd been quite busy in real life. As you are insisting that the file uploaded by me is at the wrong place(Wikimedia Commons) and that technically it shouldn't be here, I will try and get the permission that you're referring to from a party personnel through this Meetup. Kindly elaborate on exactly what kind of permission is needed. I will try my best to take steps accordingly and proceed in that direction. Thank You -- Mouryan (talk) 19:05, 1 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Mouryan: Ah, you are organizing a Kolkata meetup! That is great! I miss going to the India Coffee House there.
Here are the steps for the upload:
  1. Contact a lawyer who works for the All India Trinamool Congress
  2. Have that person go to the release form
  3. They should fill it out with their name. When asked for a file, they should enter "File:All India Trinamool Congress logo 2016.jpg"
  4. At the end of the form, they need to mail in text from an email that is from the All India Trinamool Congress. Maybe it would be "legal@aitcofficial.org", or some such thing. If they cannot do that, then it would be useful if they uploaded an image of some identification which proves that they can make legal decisions for the AIT Congress.
Thanks. Blue Rasberry (talk) 19:16, 1 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Heheh! Indian Coffee sure is classic. I'd like to thank you for your detailed response. Will revert back to you as soon as possible in this regard. -- Mouryan (talk) 19:45, 1 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Generosity Crowdfunding Campaign for User:The Photographer[edit]

Please excuse me spamming you. As a regular on Feature Picture Candidatess you will recognise User:The Photographer, who has 86 Featured Pictures. His contributions cover the architecture and culture of Brazil and Venezuela. He has basic photographic equipment: an old D300 camera and 35mm lens, and lives in a poor country where photographic equipment is expensive. The Photographer has recently taken several images using the technique where multiple frames are stitched together to create a high-resolution panorama. However, many times frustrated with the stitching errors that result from trying to take such photos without a proper panoramic head for his tripod. This special equipment permits the camera to be rotated around the entrance pupil of the lens, and eliminates such errors. Having a panoramic head would greatly increase the potential for The Photographer to create sharp high-resolution images for Commons. In addition, the purchase of a fisheye lens would enable 180 × 360° panoramas to be taken, which are a great way to explore a scene as though one is really there.

Please see the discussion about the Crowd-funding campaign on User talk:The Photographer#Generosity Crowdfunding Campaign and visit the Generosity Crowd-funding Campaign page to consider donating. Even a modest donation will make a difference if many people contribute. Thanks. -- Colin (talk) 13:38, 22 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Help with uploads by blocked user[edit]

Hello again. I'm in need of help.

This user was blocked in 2015 for obvious disruption. Recently, they tried socking and this led to me to their old uploads which have been here for a long time. Prior to it, they were quite free to add grossly POV content, making articles in their walled garden. Knowing this editor, I can't possibly imagine that these images are "own work" or they even understand basic copyright.

See Special:ListFiles/Mifciw. Particularly, the ones about the protests. Besides having POV-captions, titles which doesn't actually violate Commons policy to my knowledge, there's virtually no information regarding the image and they're low quality--all redflags.. No exif, in fact one has metadata File:Shia_Mourner_being_assaulted_by_Omar_Abdullah_Regime_on_the_eve_of_Ashura.jpg which lists someone else as the author to an older date as well. Now what I usually do is use the search engine, which usually shows news sites using it before it was uploaded but in this case, this is fairly non-notable, only instances of youtube and blogs. What is to be done? Ugog Nizdast (talk) 03:20, 26 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Ugog Nizdast Hopefully you enjoy whatever choice you make. Treatment in Commons is consistent in the sense that we have rules about only accepting content with clear copyright. When there is a case like this, the person who chooses to address it has their own personality come into play.
That account has an associated email address, and if they are making sock accounts, maybe those accounts have email addresses. If for some reason you care enough about Kasmiri politics, you might write the person and ask to talk by email or phone with them. Sometimes that gets a more human response than trying to communicate on wiki.
It often happens that people with a relationship to a troubled place like Kashmir have limited Internet access. It can happen that even good photographers shrink their pictures to small sizes before uploading them, just because of bandwidth issues. I wish we had a service in wiki where anyone could mail a jump drive to an address and get images uploaded, because if someone does the work of taking a photograph then they deserve the support of having the highest quality photos uploaded when that is a problem for them. If the pictures were all small, then I would not worry, but I see in this user's uploads, they have some that are taken with a good camera, some from a phone, and some with stripped data. It is really unusual for anyone to use so many devices to take so many pictures of varying quality. Because of that, if they do not respond to a request for an explanation, and because some of the copyright tagging seems out of order, then I would nominate the files for deletion.
At the same time the person seems to have a long term interest in playing by Wikipedia's rules. They have broken a lot of them in odd ways, and seem politically motivated, but lots of new users do this for years and this person does seem like they care to try. If you think it is worth the effort then try to collaborate. In Wikipedia there are many ways to do lots of good things quickly with no effort, so if you think the effort is not worth it, or the person is withholding information about not having the copyright, then delete and move on. Good luck. Thanks for sharing. It is an interesting situation - we do not have enough Kashmiri Wikipedians and I think this person might be one. Blue Rasberry (talk) 12:24, 26 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
So what do you suggest I do in terms of cleaning up? I'm concerned about those protests photographs mainly, since we actually do need them and I'm really uncomfortable using a photograph and taking the indeffly blocked editor's word for it's accuracy regarding place, subject information and time etc. Can they be XfDed for lacking information solely, the evidence policy here seems to support that? and that one mentioned above with contradicting metadata CSDed? Then there's those images of people who I'll probably only have to cleanup in EnWP (I'm waiting for the SPI to finish so that I can do it in peace). The only problem there is File:Arshid_Sauleh.jpg and File:Painting_of_Arshid_Sauleh.jpg: aren't photographs of non-free works, copyvios? can I CSD them as well? Ugog Nizdast (talk) 06:02, 27 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
PS: I unsure about emailing a blocked editor. Apart from still being disruptive, I don't think he'll respond kindly...especially to me. Ugog Nizdast (talk) 06:20, 27 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Ugog Nizdast: The two images of art need free copyright licenses specifically for the art, which they do not currently have. The usual practice would be to CSD them.
We do not have any system in place for addressing hoaxes. If someone uploads photos which are supposed to be of an event, but actually they are of something else, then that matter would have to be resolved with some discussion. Commons is much better at checking copyright than information quality.
If you like, I can send the person an email and ask them where they go the pictures. It is a direct question and does not need to be a long conversation. There is good reason to ask - the pictures seem to be from different sources which is unusual. I do not mind writing and asking, and in the best case, maybe the person would share original high resolution images and more clear copyright license.
If you do not think that a conversation with the editor would be useful, then yes, as you say - XfD'ing them would be a fair path forward considering that they uploads were done in a way that suggests they were taken from another source, and since the uploader has a history of other disruption. Those are not clear reasons to delete the images which is why XfD and additional opinions are useful, but I think that is enough of a case to justify raising the matter in XfD. Blue Rasberry (talk) 12:04, 27 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I've CSDed the art images. I think I'll give this email thing a shot, do try to contact him if, as you said, it's minimal and won't take anymore of your time. I'll then give this a few weeks before attempting xfds. Good call on that possible bandwidth issue which you said at start though, an indeed very possible scenario which I didn't consider.
There is one more thing...I've had this question which I finally posted as the help desk here: Commons:Help_desk/Archive/2016/12#Attracting professional photographers. I want to know how to encourage such people in future. If you don't have any knowledge/experience on this, do you know of any others whom I can contact to answer this? Ugog Nizdast (talk) 01:49, 28 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Ugog Nizdast I sent an email asking who took the pictures and how they were collected. Let's see if the user will participate in a conversation. Thanks. Blue Rasberry (talk) 15:12, 30 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

License required[edit]

Hi,

You will need to put a license on these files or it will face deletion.

— regards, Revi 00:13, 14 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • If you own the videos on vimeo, is there a way that you could license them so video2commons won't automatically place the no license and the license review template? The two videos you just uploaded resemble that. -- 1989 20:12, 14 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@1989: I am just learning both vimeo and video2commons. I will have to upload more videos to see how it works. You might be aware that Help:Converting video has been 99% useless for a year and 97% useless for ~4 years. I will learn this and rewrite the documentation when I understand how it works. OTRS for Kate Bornstein[edit]

the image

If you can it would be helpful for you to send an OTRS email to WikiCommons proofing that you are the copyright holder of Kate Bornstein. The email template you need to fill out and the email to sent it to, is here: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Email_templates This would be helpful to make sure the images never get deleted. — Kbq430 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kbq430 (talk • contribs) 05:17, 6 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Kbq430: Can you say more about why you think this is appropriate? Human OTRS attention is a scarce resource which applies to less than 1 in 10,000 images which users upload. While anyone should use OTRS to settle confusion, also it should not be used for typical uploads. Can you say something about why you think I should call this attention to my uploads, or this particular upload? It should be obvious that I am a Wikimedia Commons contributor in good standing. Of course I took the picture in person myself. Why do you think anyone would question this? Blue Rasberry (talk) 12:47, 6 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I think KBQ430 is saying that since its the only picture we have it may be helpful. Also I've seen a lot of good pictures be deleted even when copyright is fairly clear. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MMMcMaster (talk • contribs) 23:39, 12 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@MMMcMaster and Kbq430: I have a bias in that I have been here for ~10 years and know the rules, but I have never seen a case when anyone deleted a photo without a good reason. I prefer to avoid requesting extra protection or setting the precedent that photos need to have additional human attention to be safe. I trust the system because I have only seen it follow the rules.
If you are still concerned then have you considered contacting Kate? Ask her to donate a promo picture and upload it. If you are a fan of anyone else you can write them too. Everyone wants someone to get their picture into Wikimedia Commons and Wikipedia. My picture is not the best quality, but it has still been the most popular one of Kate in circulation since 2010 and everyone who does a Google search for Kate sees it. Maybe she would like to choose herself.
She needs the media support she has a show on Broadway right now so this is urgent. Can you negotiate this? Blue Rasberry (talk) 00:26, 13 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2017 is open![edit]

POTY barnstar.svg

You are receiving this message because you voted in R1 of the 2017 Picture of the Year contest, but not yet in R2.

Dear Bluerasberry,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2017 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the twelfth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2017) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

In Round 1, there were 1475 candidate images. There are 58 finalists in Round 2, comprised of the top 30 overall as well as the top 2 from each sub-category.

In the final round, you may vote for a maximum of three images. The image with the most votes will become the Picture of the Year 2017.

Round 2 will end on 22 July 2018, 23:59 UTC.

Thanks,

Thanks for uploading File:100 ORCIDator development of author from ORCID.png.

Thank you.

What I've been doing with images from University of Washington Library[edit]

As I mentioned in the meeting: User:BMacZeroBot uploaded a ton of public domain material from the University of Washington Library to Commons. I probably have not found all of it; much of it was initially placed in Category:Seattle, Category:Images from the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition Collection to check, and/or Category:Images from the Asahel Curtis Photo Company Photographs Collection to check. I've been going through roughly a thousand of these, categorizing them (much) better, sometimes improving descriptions, often adding image notes. There are still at least another thousand or two remaining to be done.

There have been a remarkable number of errors in the descriptions pulled in from the University of Washington Library. I would say that so far I've found that among the Asahel Curtis collection, about one in five has a reasonably serious error. I've corrected these and also, in each case, informed the library. The library has been inconsistent about fixing the data for the source version (maybe 50%?), but of course their followup is beyond my control.

A few good examples of what I've done:

Jmabel ! talk 05:20, 5 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Jmabel: FYI all of the UWash images the bot uploads end up in one of the subcategories of Category:Photographs by University of Washington Libraries Digital Collections. UVA photos[edit]

Hi Bluerasberry, I saw your message that you are doing Wikimedia work at UVA. Do you attend basketball games there? There are several men's basketball coaches that you will see in person this year whose articles have no photo. The most notable one is probably en:Buzz Williams (Virginia Tech). We are also missing photos of en:Tony Shaver (William & Mary) and en:Dan D'Antoni (Marshall). (en:Jim Christian of BC is also missing a photo, but UVA only plays a road game there.) If you have a suitable camera or know someone who does, it would be greatly appreciated. --B (talk) 12:39, 12 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@B: Sports is part of what I am supposed to do here and photo collection is an obvious place to start.
I have regular meetings with communications and executive staff here and I am making the case for them to give me photos to put on wiki. I cannot promise a certain turnaround, and summer 2019 is the most likely time for this to advance. The only sustainable way forward is for UVA and every other school to regularly share photos for wiki. It is in everyone's interest and this is what I tell them. I can only promise to post an update in ~6 months. I will talk this over with others at meta:Wikimedians in Residence Exchange Network. Thanks. Blue Rasberry (talk) 13:44, 12 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I wish schools would be more open with licensing their content, but most of them seem to view it as giving up control over something in their fiefdom ... and a lot of them are litigious on top of that. It always drives me crazy when they claim copyright over everything they put their hands on, even things that are obviously public domain (pre-1923 newspapers, old yearbooks with no copyright notice, etc). --B (talk) 14:03, 12 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@B: I deal with that here. Word is that every organization that hires a Wikimedian then recoils in horror at the prospect of putting content on Wikimedia. Change takes time. The challenges are social not technical. It gets easier with every precedent, though, and I try to do documentation also. Blue Rasberry (talk) 14:06, 12 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

20xx in public domain[edit]

Yo, BR, for reasons I am not sure of, a discussion has wound up on my Wikipedi talkpage concerning the 20xx in public domain. I must admit that I took some time to get at what the person was talking about, and I think I have found a way to resolve matters using such Wiki pages as s:Author:Claude McKay which provides info a bout the relevant person. When I checked the page for ru:s:Исаак Эммануилович Бабель, I discovered that the copyright for Issak Babel had been held over for several years on account of his being a victim of Stalinist terror.

I notice that whilst wikisource has a statement about the author and copyright, there have not seen an equivalent on the creator pages of Commons. Do you think this would be a good idea? I have no idea about how Lua works and perhaps this a matter which would be better handled on wikidata. Leutha (talk) 18:55, 9 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I understand this is in the music library. I have never been to that building.

I am writing to you to inform about the recent developments regarding moving Smart-Servier Images to Wikimedia Commons. because you expressed interest in helping with the project. User:OlafJanssen has moved a new set of images from 'Bones category'. All images can be found on the category page here. I am involved in adding structured data and using the images on Wikipedia and Wikidata. Please feel free to join me in doing this if you are interested. The titles of the images are pretty straightforward, so it should be quite easy to uptake these images to Wikimedia projects. If you'd like to be updated when Olaf uploads the next batch of images, I shall be happy to do so. The current image use stats can be found here. Thanks for uploading File:Massviews-Analysis of English Wikipedia's category vaccine hesitancy.png.

Thank you.

Next Commons Photographers meeting featuring large format photographer Ben Horne[edit]

Dear member of the Commons Photographers User Group,

I'm happy to invite you to our next virtual meeting on Saturday, March 20, at the usual time. As I mentioned during our last get-together, I'd like to invite external guests every now and then, given that it seems good to expand our view and learn something from someone outside our community.

Our first external guest, Ben Horne, will talk about large format wilderness photography, followed by a question-and-answer session. Ben is maybe one of best known contemporary large format photographers in the United States. On his excursions to national parks, he shoots 8×10 film and talks about his adventures on his YouTube channel which has attracted more than 48,000 followers so far. He is YouTube's first, and longest active landscape photography vlogger and I'm thrilled that he has agreed to join our next meeting and talk about his experiences.

If you're interested in joining this meeting, please sign up on the page below:

Also, don't forget to post your question(s) prior to the meeting on the following page in order to ensure a good and fruitful question-and-answer session:

I'm very much looking forward to this event and I hope you'll be able to join.

All the best, --Frank Schulenburg (talk) 22:02, 15 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Reminder: Commons Photographers meeting tomorrow[edit]

Just a quick reminder: the meeting with large format-photographer Ben Horne will happen tomorrow, Saturday, March 20. If you haven't done yet, please consider signing up for the event and add your questions to this page. This will be our first virtual meeting in 2021 and I'd be super happy if you could join. All the best, --Frank Schulenburg (talk) 16:59, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Uploading to Vimeo in order to upload to commons[edit]

Hello Bluerasberry

4 years ago you added this section to Help:Converting video, as you proposed on the talk page.

I would like to ask for the rationale of the intermediate upload to Vimeo. This is something others wondered as well. My guess is that it might not have supported direct uploads at that time, but since now it is possible to perform a direct upload to video2commons, I think the upload-to-Vimeo step can be removed?

Platonides (talk) 01:05, 26 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Platonides: Yes exactly, I am unaware of a direct upload option. If there is one now then the upload to Vimeo step is unnecessary. Blue Rasberry (talk) 01:58, 26 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
